-The Telegraph declares: "The banks just don't get it – they're lucky to be alive."

-General Motors is saying that it may not have enough cash to keep operating this year and will be "significantly short'' of cash by the end of June unless the auto market improves or it adds capital.

-The American dream has shuddered to a halt in Motown.

-Two more banking chains have failed in the U.S. - the Houston-based Franklin Bank and the smaller Los Angeles-based Security Pacific Bank.

-Many cities and states are now questioning the wisdom of adding flouride to public water supplies.

-The economy's illness just keeps spreading.

-ACLU wants a probe into a "police-staged protest" at the Democratic national convention.

-Gordon Brown plans to lobby European leaders on behalf of Barack Obama to send more troops to Afghanistan. Wasn't Obama supposed to be "anti-war"?

-Is Barack Obama developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year?

-Jeremiah Wright is now claiming that the media exploited him.

-Police are warning of a growing threat from "eco-terrorists".
