Is Oprah A Christian?

Is Oprah a Christian?  That is a question that has become an incredibly hot topic over the past few years as Oprah Winfrey has transformed herself from being just a talk show host to being one of the world's most influential spiritual leaders. According to Forbes, Oprah Winfrey is worth well over a billion dollars, but these days she seems much more interested in spiritual matters than in building her empire.  In fact, Oprah Winfrey  has become such a spiritual icon in America that USAToday has called her "a spiritual leader for the new millennium, a moral voice of authority for the nation." Millions of Americans deeply respect what Oprah has to say, and it would be hard to overstate the influence she is having not only in the United States but also all around the globe.  She has become a spiritual powerhouse, and she is changing hearts and minds every single day.

In an unscientific poll conducted on, 33 percent of the 6,600 respondents said that Oprah has had "a more profound impact" on their spiritual lives than their pastors or priests.

Just think about that for a moment.  That is absolutely stunning.

Oprah's massive television audience of ten million viewers each day and her magazine readership of over 2.7 million each month gives Oprah a tremendous platform from which to influence American culture.

Without a doubt, Oprah Winfrey is one of the most highly respected and listened to celebrities in the world.

But is Oprah a Christian?

That is a very good question.  The truth is that it is not for any of us to judge where anyone else is headed for eternity.  Rather, the question we will ask today is whether or not what Oprah is publicly teaching is Christian or not.

Oprah is confusing a lot of people because she openly claims to be a Christian.  That is how she identifies herself.  But what she believes about God, faith, "salvation", heaven, hell and a whole host of other things directly contradicts the Bible.

According to renowned Christian apologist Josh McDowell, millions of Christians are being fooled by Oprah Winfrey because she uses Christian terminology and Christian traditions as a way to lure people into beliefs that are not Christian at all.  A recent article in The Christian Post quoted what McDowell said at a recent conference about the different between the Christian God and the religion that Oprah is pushing.....

“The Christian God is a personal creator God which all truth resides, who is totally outside of ourselves and outside of our universe,” explained the best-selling author of More Than a Carpenter. “When Oprah and others refer to God, it is an impersonal force. And I think one way that comes out is that they will say, ‘Look within you and find yourself from within. Find that God-consciousness. That is God.’”

So if what Oprah Winfrey is pushing is not Christianity, then exactly what is it?

Take a few moments and imagine a religion where Jesus did not come to die on the cross, where there is no heaven, no hell, no sin, no salvation, no doctrine, where all spiritual paths in the world are equally valid and where "god" is in you and in everything else you see.

That is the religion of Oprah Winfrey.

It is also the New Age "one world religion" that many other spiritual gurus throughout the world have been trying to bring to fruition.

In fact, this religious movement is summed up very well by the lyrics of "Imagine" by the Beatles (who also were highly influenced by New Age religion).....

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

The truth is that there is a huge movement towards a one world religion where all spiritual paths are equally valid (except if you believe in Jesus Christ of course), and Oprah is right in the forefront of that movement.

So what, exactly, is Oprah teaching about "spirituality"?

Well, during one shocking national broadcast, Oprah Winfrey stated that Jesus did not come to the earth to die on the cross for our sins. You can see this stunning moment for yourself in the video posted below....

When I first saw this video I could hardly believe it. Instead of coming to die on the cross, Oprah told millions of her viewers that the real purpose for Jesus coming to earth was to teach all of us "Christ consciousness".

Oprah also told viewers recently: "I don't believe that Jesus came to start Christianity."

Oprah is also insisting that there could not possibly be "one way" to God, and that all "religions" are basically different paths to the same God.  If you don't believe that Oprah would say this, just check out the video posted below....

So who does Oprah believe that God is?

Well, Oprah has been quoted as once stating the following....

"I believe in the FORCE-I call it God."
Jesus also has clearly renounced the divinity of Jesus Christ.  To Oprah, the truth is that all of us are God....

"One of the most important books I've read is Eric Buttterworth's Discover the Power Within You. In it he said 'Jesus did not come to teach us how divine He was but to teach that divinity was within us.'"

For years, Oprah has promoted the teachings of New Age activists such as Shirley MacLaine.  It turns out that Oprah believes that what Shirley MacLaine teaches is what the Bible has been trying to tell us all along.  Just check out the following quote from Oprah....

"As I read more of Shirley MacLaine, crystals, and The Aquarian

Oprah has even conducted special online "studies" for her followers with her new spiritual "superstar", Eckhart Tolle.

During one of those sessions, Tolle told one caller, who confessed that she still feels guilty when she decides not to go to church on Sunday, that she must understand that "the voice" which encourages her to go to church is just social conditioning.

The following are just a couple of the incredibly disturbing things that Eckhart Tolle has written in his books:

"All religions are equally false and equally true, depending on how you use them."

"Man made God in his own image."

Oprah has also been promoting the teaching of New Age guru Marianne Williamson, and in fact she has given Williamson a radio show on the Oprah radio network to promote such beliefs as....

"There is no sin."

A "slain Christ has no meaning."

"Do not make the pathetic error of clinging to the old rugged cross."

"The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself."

These are the things that Oprah REALLY believes and has been promoting over television, radio, the Internet and in her magazine.

In Matthew 24:10-11, Jesus said:

At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Oprah Winfrey is literally deceiving millions upon millions of people.

Have you been deceived by her?

Oprah claims that there are multiple ways to get to heaven.

If there was another way to heaven, then why did Jesus have to die on the cross?

If there were many other ways for our sins to be paid for, then why didn't Jesus just come down to earth, point out some of the various ways to get saved, and then go back into heaven?

Why did Jesus have to actually die on the cross?

The truth is that there was no other way for our sins to be paid for, and that the only way to God is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him.
-John 3:36

Will you choose to believe Oprah or will you choose to believe the Word of God?

The "church of Oprah" is very appealing for millions of Americans because in her "faith", there is no sin, no need for salvation, no heaven, no hell and everyone is "god".

But it is all a big lie.

The truth is that we cannot just make up whatever we want about God and about religion.

The truth is that God loves all of us very much, but the world rejected God and embraced evil instead.  All of us have violated God's laws and all of us are sinners.

But God loved us all so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins.

If you will repent of your sins and receive Jesus into your life by faith, your sins will be forgiven and you will be given eternal life.

What Does The Bible Say About Salvation?

  1. Religion is soooooooo bronze age. Grow up.

    1. Religion? That is for religous people. Jesus is not about religion. He despised it. Jesus and Christianity is about relationship; an intimate, loving relationship with God which we prove by demonstrating love for others in obedience to Jesus' instruction.

    2. That is a religion though, jesus didn't hate religion, he just disagreed with his contemporary belief system. I can relate to that

  2. Can anyone tell me what season and episode number these clips were taken from? Not saying I doubt it, but i'm kind of old fashioned where I like to see things for myself.

  3. You say I should wonder wheather Mrs.Winfrey is a christ. Why? Before I will do so, I will ask wheather the pope is a christ. I think he ist not. There are not many christs on earth. If there were 5% christs, there would be no money and no war and no thing what we use to call church nowadays. Spoken in your terms: you, who are pointing at Mrs. Winfrey, are evil.

  4. Yesterday I posted a comment about this item. Have you reason to be scared of my opinion?

  5. I would like to address this article & the posted comments here. This article hits a Grand-Slam Home Run in TRUTH! If you are a true student of the One and Only God;God The Father(Yahweh)= Jesus Christ(The Fathers only begotten Son)& of The Holy Spirit, concerning His Love letter{The Holy Bible} and have excepted & received what Jesus did for ALL of mankind---By Freely sacrificing & dying on "That old rugged Cross", then and ONLY Then, can You know The TRUTH! John 14:6 clearly states,"Jesus answered,'I Am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me!'" ~~~ If you are serious and concerned about Your final Eternal Destiny,[and everyone should be], I strongly encourage You to read a few verses in scripture. Romans 3:21-23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 4:12; Hebrews 9:27; Romans 10:9-13 and also the whole chapter 3 of the Gospel of John. ~~~ Now, Jesus Truly Loves You with an unconditional Love that You will NEVER find anywhere else = So Please, for YOUR sake, Except Jesus' Free Gift for YOUR Salvation and ask Him to Save YOU and wash YOU clean of Your Sins by His Precious Blood. Sorry to say, but Mrs.Oprah Winfrey has been deceived and is clearly preaching A Wrong gospel---My prayer for her is that she ask Jesus Himself to give her the "Real Truth" concerning Himself! And that Jesus encounters her, like Jesus did with Saul of Tarsus---who became Paul the Apostle on the road to Damascus. *** This has been written by: JCWISDOM[dot]com---Bearclaw:)*

  6. With all the religion bashing going on in the world and in this posting, and with all of Oprah's claptrap, do you know what struck me as the most significant part of the YouTube movie? It was the brave woman warriors who were standing up for what they believed, and were testifying as defenders of the faith. Well done.

    1. And Oprah was doing the same. Well done!

  7. You're in my prayers Oprah. Oorah to that sgj3! Glory to God.

  9. Joy , why does Oprah need God to bless her? If she is god then she can bless herself.
I love Oprah too but I know the truth and there is one way to get to heaven …through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Better than us loving her he loves her and wish’s that none should parish. One day every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
I pray that God will get a hold of Oprah and undo all the lies the enemy has so bluntly an loudly whispered in her ear and how many she is taking with her. I pray for you to Joy and all lost souls whom are believing a lying New Age Spirit. Thanks to all who are standing up for our Lord. Love you all and see you someday.

  10. Is Oprah a christian? Do you really have to ask that question? She believes Jesus was here on earth, died on the cross to teach us what Infinite Absolute Pure Love is. Think about this. Do Christains believe that we gain eternal life when we believe in Christ dying for our sins. My guess would be - yes. Here is the question that this raises. Does eternal life start after we die? And if so, does this make sense? Eternal life means no beginning and no end.... no beginning.... so why do so many believe that eternal life starts after we die? We are already eternal. We existed before we were born on to this earth. This school of learning, if you will. Why do people wait for Jesus to return? He has never left us. He tells us himself that God is with us. God is here now. This raises another question. Since God is with us, the Holy Spirit is with us, we are one in Father, we are ALL children of God, we are One in the Body of Christ.... What does this say to us? Are we not one of the same Spirit? Are we not all a part of God? Think about it. We are all connected. Connected through God. Connected through Love. Absolute Pure Love. This concept of consciousness that Oprah speaks of does make sense. We are all a part of it. We are each a part of God. Together, with Christ, we are God. Don't be threatened by it. Open yourself to understanding it. Your Bible teaches this. We are all a part of the Absolute Pure Love of Jesus (God). This isn't a new religion. It is one religion that encompasses all religions. Christianity does not have the market on God. Would that really make sense? What kind of God would do that. Not a God of Absolute Pure Love. Not Jesus. He Loves all people no matter how we label ourselves and each other.

    1. My Reply to "simplemind333", who commented on 11-12-2012,

You are misrepresenting what Yahshua or Jesus came to teach us in God's Word. Yahshua never said we were eternal. He said that He would give us EVERLASTING LIFE, NOT eternal life, and ONLY if we believe that He is who He said He was, which is the Son of God who died for our sins so that we could find everlasting life in the resurrection. The Gospel of John is VERY CLEAR about this:

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:36 - He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

John 4:14 - but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.

John 5:24 -Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

John 6:27 - Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.

John 6:40 - And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:47 - Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.

These statements were all made by Yahshua or Jesus to tell us how to find everlasting life with Him, and none of them say anything about helping us to somehow "rediscover" that we already have eternal life. In fact, He clearly said that those who do not believe in Him will NOT receive everlasting life in John 3:36. There, Yahshua said that those who refuse to believe that He is God's one and only Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him!

Yahshua also said that He allows His Spirit to dwell inside of us after we believe in Him and do as He says, and NOT before. So believing that Yahshua is who He said He was, and following His commandments, are prerequisites for receiving the indwelling presence of God's Spirit:

John 14:15-18 - “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

So please, do not try to twist the Word of God around to say something that it does not say! For God's Word is clear that there is only one way to find everlasting life, and that is through believing in and following the one and only Son of God:

John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

  11. I dont consider Christianity to be a religion. You are just accepting that God sent his only son to save us all from sin and with that have a good moral upbringing and to build a relationship with them. Religion complicates things Christianity does not, its simple and easy but people are to busy picking at it and over analyzing the Bible that it has become skewed for to many. Is it weird that I just read a chapter about false prophets and cults before I randomly found this page? I just pray that Oprah and her followers here about the one true God.

  12. Wondering if someone thinks and believes like you is a normal desire, but I believe the one thing we are not to judge is someone's salvation or lack of it. So the question is sinful.

    1. RosalieG:

You wrote, "I believe the one thing we are not to judge is someone's salvation or lack of it. So the question is sinful."

That's just vague enough to mean...absolutely nothing.

It is one thing to say to someone, "You will forever remain unregenerate." We frankly do not know that.

It is another thing entirely to believe and say, "There is just no way in the world to distinguish real Christians from fake Christians, and to even attempt to do so is sinful!" Seriously? That is tantamount to saying that there is no way to distinguish an apple from an orange, a truck from a flower, light from darkness, a good father from a pedophile, or even yourself from someone else.

There is nothing "Christian," nor even just particularly virtuous, about an indiscriminate blob.

  13. I fear and tremble at what I am hearing, and seeing you people say and believe !!! Strange ! what Satan can do. This is really the end time!

OPRAH has a demon, a godess spirit of a false prophetess. Deception by mis-interpreting scripture. To which god does she pray to and what kind of prayer does she pray??????

The Bible say " whosoever will add or subtract from the word of God the same will drink the wine of the wrath of GOD " The word of GOD doesn't need help to explain it like Oprah is doing by twisting it into deceiving people. The Bible is clear and it is pure in itself(that word has power and life in it) - She should find another book to explain perhaps a SATANIC BIBLE not the HOLY Bible we know. Thats not her place.

Oprah's views are nothing but demonic perspectives, she is possessed by demons of false doctrines.

Woe unto you who fall into the trap false demonic doctrines.

"for the god(satan) of this world has blinded her eyes from seeing the light of GOD. The god of this world has also blinded the eyes of all those who follows her teachings" they got eyes but cant see, ears but cant hear - you have chosen for yourself.

My prayer that all you people may see the light of the true GOD through Jesus Christ the Savior of the world. That you may know the truth and the truth will set you freeeeeeeeee ! in the NAME OF JESUS, Amen

  14. Pray for Oprah Winfrey. Can a true Minister of the Gospel of Christ preach to her. Please guide her before she loses her soul tpo SATAN as well as mislead many

  15. Oprah has chosen the way of destruction. She has chosen it because it fits in with her lifestyle. She makes God to fix into her box, her understanding and her image. Christ died for our sins so that we may have life! For her to deny that will lead to her own damnation. The sad part is that she once heard the truth and rejected it. She grew up in a Baptist church but did not understand how God could be a jealous God so she rejected all his teachings! She needs prayer for herself and all she is leading to the same pit in hell.
